Biography

André was born in a coastal village in southeast England in the area known as East Anglia. Many residents there have blood-lines from France, Cabuche is one such descendent.

André's early childhood was spent roaming farm fields, hedgerows and shorelines of the coastal villages where he lived. It was there that his love of nature and his fascination with human character, form and beauty were born. His interest in drawing was also beginning to show.

His family moved to Canada when he was eleven. Several years later he trained under noted Canadian artists Robert Ross and Doris McCarthy, followed by studies and apprenticeship in professional photography with the navy and the airforce. He went on to specialize in studio work, portraiture, illustration and fine art photography.

André has worked with art directors, taught professional photography and worked as official photographer for Lieutenant and Governors General and other dignitaries.

For more than 30 years he has been a highly successful workshop leader at major photographic conferences and seminars across North America. His workshops and audiovisual presentations, particularly on 'environmental portraiture', 'visual composition', 'colour' and 'using natural light' are extremely popular.

Many of André's fine art drawings are held in private collections.

Artist Statement

"From working in two different visual art disciplines I have come to appreciate the importance of the language of light and visual literacy in creating artistic images. An added benefit is that I have learned how to reveal the extraordinary in what others often consider the ordinary."
